Kayak Transducer Mount

In going with a fish-finder to mount to my kayak. An affordable color option would be the Garmen Echo 300c. After much research, I went to Bass Pro Shops and spoke with the electronics professionals. I had almost went with a gray-scale Humminbird portable 585, but the clarity, ease of use, and the color of the Garmen Echo was unmatched.

There are several options that you can use on a kayak. At http://www.garmin.com/ you can get a suction cup mount, for a kayak or any other boat. I think this would be the quickest mount and would work well if you are going on a quick trip out of town.

After doing much reading about mounts on the internet, I found a simple velcro version that works perfectly. All you need is around ten dollars in your pocket and a quick trip to your local Lowes Hardware. You will need the following:

1-riveted metal rod at 6-32 in size
1-pack of drilled metal sleeves
1-pack of 6-32 washers
1-pack of 6-32 nuts
1-pack of industrial strength water resistant velcro

1. Cut the metal rod to 3" in length with a pair of wire cutters.
2. Place metal rod through transducer mounting holes.
3. Then put a washer on each side
4. Put a nut on each side and tighten snug.
5. Place 3 washers on each side.
6. Slide a metal sleeve on each side.
7. Place a nut on each side and tighten.
8. Place a velcro piece on the inside of each metal sleeve.
9. Lastly, place a piece of velcro on each side of the hull of the boat at the stern.
10. Velcro the unit to the stern.
